1. Arvind Kejriwal sworn-in as Delhi CM. Arvind Kejriwal, whose AAP has rewritten the grammar of
politics in Delhi, on Saturday took oath as Delhi Chief Minister promising a
corruption-free govt and new style of governance without arrogance of power.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today allocated portfolios to his six Cabinet
colleagues while keeping key departments of Home, Finance, Power and Vigilance
with himself.

Somnath Bharti: Tourism and Law Departments
Saurabh Bhardwaj: Food Supply and Transport
Rakhi Birla: Women and Child Development
Girish Soni: Development and Employment Departments

2. Arvind Kejriwal became the second Chief Minister with
a IIT background, after his Goa counterpart Manohar Parrikar and joins a select group of ministers,
including Ajit Singh and Jairam Ramesh, whose alma mater is the crown jewel of
the country’s higher education. A product of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Khargapur, 45-year-old Kejriwal studied Mechanical Engineering and
passed out in 1989. Parrikar passed
out as a metallurgical engineer from IIT, Mumbai.
3. India
has signed a Rs 4,000-crore deal with the US for procuring six more C-130J
Super Hercules Special Operations aircraft for the Indian Air Force. The proposal was cleared by the
Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on
December 20. The two sides signed the deal yesterday under which the US Air
Force will supply the aircraft to the IAF through the Foreign Military Sales
route. The IAF had acquired the
first lot of six aircraft at a cost of around Rs 5,500 crore. The new
lot of six planes will be located at Panagarh in West Bengal, which would be
headquarters of the proposed Mountain Strike Corps of the army, along the China border.
4. Nine-year-old US boy climbs
South America's tallest mountain Aconcagua peak in Argentina . Tyler Armstrong climbed
the mountain, in the Argentine Andes, with his father and Tibetan sherpa
Lhawang Dhondup. Last year, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro - Africa 's highest
peak. More than 100 people have died attempting to conquer Aconcagua ,
which rises 6,962 metres above sea level. The
youngest person to have conquered the mountain before him was 10-year-old
Matthew Moniz, also from the United
States , in 2008.
5. Veteran Hindi actor Farooq
Sheikh, who is best remembered for his performances in films like 'Garm Hava',
'Shatranj Ke Khiladi', 'Chashme Buddoor' and 'Kissi Se Na Kehna', died this
morning after suffering a heart attack in Dubai. He was 65. Farooq
Sheikh was in Dubai
apparently for a concert when he suffered the heart attack on Friday night. His
body will be brought to Mumbai later in the day after completing the
formalities in Dubai . Sheikh made a tremendous contribution
in theatre, films and TV as well. He started his career in Bollywood in 1973
with 'Garm Hava'.
6. Star Sports is official broadcaster
for Aircel Chennai Open. Tennis
enthusiasts are in for a treat. Organisers of the Aircel Chennai Open, which is
India ’s
only ATP World Tour tennis event, has named Star Sports as the official
broadcaster of the tournament for the next three editions until 2016. The $450,000 Aircel Chennai Open is
slated to take place at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Chennai from December 30,
2013 to January 5, 2014.
