2. Ahead of India's Independence Day celebrations this week, Google announced to launch "Google Impact Challenge in India,"inviting Indian nonprofits to tell how they would use technology to improve people's lives.

3. In one of the worst disasters to have struck the Indian Navy, a series of explosions rocked its submarine INS Sindhurakshak at the dockyard in Mumbai around midnight, sinking it partially in the shallow sea, in which 18 personnel including three officers are feared killed.

4. The government on Tuesday said that Reserve Bank will examine financials of 34,754 non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to ascertain their eligibility.

5. Rising for the second consecutive month, inflation shot up to 5.79 percent in July, driven largely by double digit rise in prices of food articles, mainly vegetables, including onion.

6. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Centre signed an agreement for US $300 million additional loan to upgrade 254 kilometres of deteriorated highways in northern and southern Bihar.

11. India's Vikas Gowda settled for a seventh-place finish with a moderate throw in the 14th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Moscow on Tuesday.

12. Ireland's Robert Heffernan today won the 50 kilometres walk title at the Athletics World Championships being held in Moscow.
